Finally an MOD I Like- By Thomas W. Mitchell, DDS, FAGD

Introduction: 

I've been struggling with MOD composites forever it seems. This is the technique I used today, out of exasperation from continually failing one way or the other. This is 28 on one of my geriatrics. She had a very old inlay that came out last week and we used TERM for a temp until we could get her into the schedule.

After prepping I placed just the distal Triodent Supercurve matrix.

Then Clean and Boost, "slobbered" on (Dr. John Kancas description) 2-3 layers of Superb really fast, lightly dried that and co-cured with a layer of Titan Flowable composite. I did not put any Titan Flowable on the mesial gingival since I didn't have a matrix there. Then filled the distal with Exquisite, curing it with my Valo light set on XTRA POWER or 3200mW/cm2 ("plasma mode"). That contact felt really tight and the contour looked great.

Then I placed another Triodent Supercurve on the mesial with a white Wave Wedge

Then filled the mesial with Exquisite, cured that and added in the occlusal.

With the matrix removed I could see I had good contacts and good contours.

After disking with red Softflex discs and some occlusal contouring with fine diamonds.

Then adjust the occlusion and a final glaze with a quick add of Superb and we're done.

Conclusion: 

So for me I'm finally happy with an MOD composite. It is difficult for me to get both proximals well contoured. This is the best way I've found. Hope this helps -
