Plasma Cure Occlusals- By Thomas W. Mitchell, DDS, FAGD

Introduction: 

This is 30 OB, 31 Occ, 32 Occ with Clean and Boost, Superb and A2 Titan co-cured, Exquisite all cured with Valo light on "plasma" or 3200 mw/cm2 for 3 second blasts. This is as close to "assembly line" stuff as I get.

Pretty simple preps. Nothing special. Slight "bevel" on occlusal margins-not really just a quick smooth-off.

Clean and Boost on all 3 for at least 20 seconds. I'm using Superb, Apex Dental Materials 1 bottle system and all 1 bottle systems need help etching enamel. Just leave the Clean and Boost on a little longer. Then rinse, lightly dry and add Superb for 20 seconds (I'm doing all 3 together, just like down at the clinic), air thin that and add Titan A2 flowable and co-cure for 3 seconds with the Valo light on "plasma mode".

Then I went to each one individually, starting with 32, and layered Exquisite on the lingual, forced it against the prep with composite instruments and shaped with an Acorn instrument. Cured that for 3 secs, then did the same for the buccal sides.

By laying the instruments against the remaining contours I didn't have to do any occlusal adjustment. Before removing the dam I cured each one again for 3 seconds.

Conclusion: 

This is as fast as I can work. Took me 25 minutes from injection to final photos. We've really come a long way with our composite work by using these specific materials in this manner we're producing excellent restorations efficiently. Will this work with other materials? We don't know. Exquisite is a highly filled composite with very low shrinkage, so very low shrinkage stress. No white lines and no post op sensitivity.
