30 DO- 31 MO Restorative Technique- By Thomas W. Mitchell, DDS, FAGD

Introduction: 

I find these very difficult so I have tried multiple techniques to speed this up and get a high-quality result. This is what I've come up with.

Finished preps. With composites I extend the proximals for easy disking.

This is a contoured Getz Dixieland Band in the retainer

After Clean and Boost I dried everything and placed Surpass 1,2,3 and Titan A2 Flowable , the co-cured with the Valo light on XTRA POWER for 3 seconds. Then I built the distal surface in Exquisite and cured it for 3 secs.

Next I layered Exquisite against the lingual side, forcing it into the prep and contouring it with a flat composite instrument and an acorn carver. I don't allow it to contact the buccal side. After curing that for 3 secs I layered the buccal Exquisite and added another 3 seconds of light. Now the occlusal anatomy is pretty much complete.

I quickly disked and shaped the proximal. Then placed a Triodent matrix on 31.

Clean and Boost then Surpass 1,2,3 and co-cure Titan A2 Flowable. This was a smaller area than on 30 so I bulk filled it and cured it.

Almost no occlusal adjusting (for a nice change). I polished this with Softflex discs and one of those silicone discs with all the "fingers". Then final cures of 3secs from each direction.

Conclusion: 

Back to back composites on molars are the hardest for me. This technique is the easiest one for me, first using a band in a retainer and then the sectional matrix, to get the quality result I want.
