The magnitude of the distance between Earth and Pluto becomes clear when one thinks of the New Horizons mission to Pluto. It took one year to get to Jupiter and seven more to get to Pluto. New Horizons is expected to buzz Pluto on July 14, 2015. This article puts things into perspective:
