I've been using Surpass now for approximately 6 months. Since that time, I've had great results. Recently, I received Gordon Christiansens Clinicians Report in the mail, stating all the bond strengths for the popular bonding agents.

I noticed that Surpass was below the mean for bond strength to dentin.

We were under the impression Surpass had the highest bond strength to dentin. We are very confused. Could you please clarify.

I just saw the thread on dental town. All my questions are answered. I'm sticking with Surpass.

The CR report has nothing to do with clinical success. Nothing.

And thanks!

There most certainly are problems with their choice of composite. They should not have switched types of composites without knowing how all materials work with their new choice.

That decision was a bad one.

so is FSU too stiff? is that the issue? bad composite/BA contact?

i imagine testing isn't done with a layer of flowable in between? (clinical relevance)

That's what I am thinking. Poor adaptation. FSU is really dry and does not adapt easily. Surpass has a really small 02 inhibited layer in contrast to all those other adhesives which have significantly thicker 02 inhibited layers.

It appears to me that FSU requires a thick 02 inhibited layer for best adaptation.

As I have mentioned, as long as we use Z100 Surpass does fabulously. It does exactly what we say it does. Switching composites just before an important test was irresponsible.

If you use Seamfree you eliminate the disadvantage. It raises the bond strengths - again significantly.

They made several assertions that we're investigating right now for veracity.
