Interface IS effective on Yttrium Zirconia.

I just ran a study on the YZ samples I received from Jim McGuire in Baltimore at the Cerec Boot camp run by Ray Becker.

Interface and Simplicity 2 DO work significantly better than either Simplicity alone or sandblasting and Simplicity.

Sandblasting of YZ does not improve retention if Interface is used.

(Samples were stored for 2 weeks in water at 37 degrees C prior to testing)

Cool

john,

could you describe for me the possible reasons why?
i have always understood and have been taught that you can not chemically bond to any zirconia - therefore the use of resin cement is nice in terms of sealing the tooth yet do virtually nothing in terms of increasing any bonding strengths, that is why i usually seal the tooth with sim and use 3m luting plus - i guess i am wrong!!!!

no comments please flem!!!! where are you by the way?

anyway - just curious as to how this is more effective. i assume it has everything to do with interface - i love that stuff!!!!

take care,
d

Darren

Those surfaces are very unreactive, but there is almost certainly some kind ceramic reaction ongoing. In addition, Interface is a surface-active agent and undoubtedly improves the wetting of the YZ surface and enables good bond strengths.

John, are you saying we just apply the interface directly without sandblasting? or do we do our regular protocol of sandblast first then interface.
