About this technique...

Instructions state "When it gels, clean the excess".

I cemented an all porcelain crown with Anchor yesterday.

How gelled is gelled? Is there a time?

Do I need to hold the crown with firm pressure for the entire pre-gel stage?

After it had gelled, can I let go of the crown, or should I maintain pressure?

How about the feared interproximals? They can get messy if the cement cures too much, but flossing to early will likely cause bleeding. When is the right time to take care of this area? Do you recommend an explorer, a fresh piece of floss or a piece of floss that has been embedded prior to seating the restoration?

When do I light cure?

About this technique...

Instructions state "When it gels, clean the excess".

I cemented an all porcelain crown with Anchor yesterday.

How gelled is gelled?

Yes.

Is there a time?

About 3 minutes.

Do I need to hold the crown with firm pressure for the entire pre-gel stage?

Just firmly and gently- not real pressure.

After it had gelled, can I let go of the crown, or should I maintain pressure?

One may let go.

How about the feared interproximals? They can get messy if the cement cures too much, but flossing to early will likely cause bleeding. When is the right time to take care of this area?

The stuff holds a gel for a period of time- it does not snap set. Floss down, not up. Floss multiple times. It may bleed, but since the cement is gelled, it will not displace the resin.

Do you recommend an explorer, a fresh piece of floss or a piece of floss that has been embedded prior to seating the restoration?

Fresh piece of floss is what I use.

When do I light cure?

Any time after flossing.

After it gels.

Tooth:

- Apply Simplicity as usual and light-activate for 10 seconds (facial and lingual in the anterior, facial, occlusal and lingual in the posterior)
- Apply another coat of Sim 2, but DO NOT LIGHT ACTIVATE

Crown:

- Lightl sandblast internal surface of crown; 27 micron Al203 particles recommended.
- Apply Interface and DRY
- Apply a coat of Sim 2 and light-activate 10 seconds
- Inject Anchor (or lower class resin luting material) and seat
- When it gels, clean the excess
- Light-activate 10 seconds per surface

John, I noticed you edited out the need to apply another uncured coat on the inside of the crown (see you original quoted post in Flem's reply). Is that no longer necessary?

Yes, it really is not needed there.
