Hi John long time since my last post. How are you? I have a few questions about Titan, which I just ordered from Chris today.

1. Do you still place the first layer 0.5mm and cure for 20 seconds?

2. After the first layer, do you continue to fill the class I or Class II with the Titan up to the contact(on classII obviously) then switch to a micro-hybrid? OR to do fill as before with Titan(o.5 mm only) then microhybrid?

Thanks,
Paul

Hi Paul! Doin' pretty well, thanks

1. Do you still place the first layer 0.5mm and cure for 20 seconds?

<1 mm and ten seconds.

2. After the first layer, do you continue to fill the class I or Class II with the Titan up to the contact(on classII obviously) then switch to a micro-hybrid? OR to do fill as before with Titan(o.5 mm only) then microhybrid?

Usually a couple of increments of Titan and then over to the regular restorative.

Is there an advantage to placing a few increments of Titan before placing the regular composite, compared to just placing the composite after the first layer of Titan?

That's always a good reason. Very Happy I'll try it on the next filling I do. Just one last question. Do I have to worry more about contraction since Titan is a flowable, or is the contraction more similar to a microhybrid composite?

In these sorts of layers and on dentin primarily, no problem.

I wouldn't tell you to do it if it was a problem would I?

Thanks for the quick replies. I just tried layering Titan on the last filling I did tonight and it's quite a bit easier Very Happy I'll use it more often in this manner.

Please do let us know how this goes for you over time. I know it'll work, but it's also a good thing to have the feedback!

thanks! Cool

John,

I must be getting senile, I thought you were recommending 20 sec cure for the first layer.

If you were unsure of light output or had a weaker light 20 sec is better.

So with an Ultralume 5, 10 seconds is fine. 20 is finer... Rolling Eyes

Thanks, John

One other question occured to me. If one uses ONLY Titan material for a Cl V restoration(let's say one that is only 1-2mm deep,do you cure the final layer for 3sec. then wait 3min. then cure 3sec., shape, polish etc. then final cure as we did with Cl V's using permaflo plus microfill?
Thanks,
Paul
